HUAWEI Watch GT 4
HUAWEIThere's a particular kind of smartwatch fatigue that sets in after you've charged your device for the third time in a single week. You strap it on, it dies overnight, and suddenly the "smart" part of smartwatch feels like more hassle than it's worth. The HUAWEI Watch GT 4 in its 46mm form, dressed here in a woven green strap, was built specifically to solve that problem — and it does so while still packing in serious health tracking, GPS-guided workout modes, and a design that doesn't scream "gadget" the moment you walk into a meeting. Whether that trade-off works for you depends on what you actually need from a watch on your wrist, and that's exactly what this review will help you figure out.
Design and Build Quality: Dress Watch Looks, Sports Watch Durability
The first thing you notice about the GT 4 46mm isn't a screen or a sensor — it's the shape. Instead of the perfectly round case most smartwatches default to, Huawei gave this model an octagonal bezel that sits somewhere between a classic diver's watch and a modern fashion accessory. It's a deliberate departure from the brand's earlier GT models, and independent hands-on testing has consistently singled out this angular case as one of the more distinctive designs in the smartwatch category right now, with reviewers comparing its faceted silhouette to high-end luxury watch styling rather than typical fitness tech.
At 46mm wide and 10.9mm thick, this is unmistakably a larger watch, designed for wrists that can carry some visual weight. The stainless steel case gives it a reassuring heft without tipping into "bulky," and the woven strap on this particular colourway swaps out the more common silicone or leather options for a textured, fabric-style band that breathes better against skin during long wears. At 48 grams for the watch head alone, it sits comfortably in the middle ground — substantial enough to feel premium, light enough that you'll forget it's there by the afternoon.
Because the strap uses a standard 22mm lug width, it's fully swappable. If the woven texture isn't your thing for the gym or a black-tie dinner, you can switch to a different band without needing any tools, and that flexibility is part of what lets this single watch move convincingly between a workout and a night out.
On the durability side, the GT 4 is built to shrug off daily punishment. It carries water resistance rated for swimming and everyday water exposure — independent confirmation puts it at 5ATM, meaning it comfortably handles showers, pool laps, and rain, though it isn't meant for scuba diving or high-pressure water sports. Dust resistance and a scratch-resistant finish round out a build that's clearly meant to survive gym bags, hiking trails, and the general chaos of daily life, not just sit safely on a shelf.
Build at a Glance
- 46mm case, 10.9mm thick
- 48g watch head weight
- 5ATM water resistance
- Dust resistant, scratch resistant finish
- Swappable 22mm strap
Display: A Bright, Sharp Screen That Holds Its Own
The GT 4 46mm uses a 1.4-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a 466 x 466 pixel resolution, and in practice this translates to a display that's genuinely pleasant to read outdoors and vivid enough indoors that watch faces look closer to a printed dial than a digital readout. Independent testing has measured brightness output in the range of 600 nits, which is enough to stay legible in direct sunlight — a detail that matters far more than people expect until they're squinting at a dim screen mid-run.
AMOLED technology means deep blacks and rich colour reproduction, and the touch response has been described by reviewers as smooth and immediate, with swipes and taps registering without the lag that plagues cheaper fitness trackers. It won't quite match the pixel density of the very latest flagship phones-turned-watches from Apple or Samsung, but for a device in this price bracket, it's a genuinely strong panel that doesn't feel like a compromise.
Health and Fitness Tracking: Where the GT 4 Earns Its Keep
This is the heart of the watch, and Huawei has loaded it with sensors and software aimed at people who actually want data, not just notifications.
24/7 Health Monitoring
The GT 4 runs Huawei's TruSeen 5.5+ optical sensor system, which continuously tracks heart rate, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), sleep quality through TruSleep, and stress levels throughout the day rather than only during dedicated workouts. What that means practically: instead of glancing at your heart rate once during a gym session, the watch is quietly building a fuller picture of how your body behaves at rest, under stress, and during sleep — useful context for spotting patterns like poor recovery or elevated resting heart rate before they become a bigger problem.
A newer addition to this generation is Pulse Wave Arrhythmia Analysis, which screens for irregular heart rhythms during everyday wear. It's worth being clear-eyed about what this is and isn't: it's a screening feature designed to flag potential irregularities for you to discuss with a doctor, not a diagnostic medical device. The watch also includes ECG functionality, letting you take an on-demand electrocardiogram reading rather than relying solely on optical sensors — a feature still relatively uncommon at this price point. It's worth noting that the watch does not include blood pressure measurement, so anyone specifically shopping for that function will need to look elsewhere.
Sports and Workout Tracking
With support for over 100 workout modes covering everything from running and cycling to swimming and hiking, the GT 4 is built to follow you across almost any activity you throw at it. The "scientific workout coach" element analyses your training load and recovery to suggest when to push harder and when to ease off, rather than just logging raw numbers.
For location accuracy, the watch uses dual-band, five-system GNSS positioning — essentially a more advanced satellite-tracking setup than the single-band GPS found in many competing trackers. In real-world use, this has translated into noticeably faster GPS lock times compared to Huawei's previous generation, and the system is designed to sharpen its accuracy the more you use it, learning your typical running routes and gait over time. For anyone who runs or cycles through urban canyons or dense tree cover — places where GPS signals typically struggle — this dual-band approach is a meaningful practical upgrade over basic single-system trackers.
Calorie and Activity Management
The companion Stay Fit app adds a layer of nutritional awareness that many fitness watches skip entirely. It tracks real-time calorie intake alongside active and resting calorie burn, then calculates your calorie deficit or surplus — giving a more complete picture of energy balance rather than just showing how many steps you took. Combined with redesigned activity rings for visualising daily movement goals, it's a system clearly built for people trying to manage weight or body composition, not just log workouts for the sake of it.
Battery Life: The GT 4's Signature Strength
Huawei advertises up to 14 days of battery life on a single charge from the 524mAh cell, and while independent testing suggests the true two-week figure requires disabling several features to hit, the real-world numbers are still genuinely impressive. Testers who kept notifications, calls, sleep tracking, and light activity monitoring switched on typically reported close to a full week of use between charges — and that's with the watch actively working, not sitting in a drawer. Owners running the watch with the always-on display enabled have reported closer to seven to eight days of uptime, while more conservative use with the display waking only on wrist-raise pushes comfortably past the ten-day mark.
Compare that to the one-to-two-day cycle typical of an Apple Watch or many Wear OS devices, and the practical difference becomes obvious: instead of a nightly charging ritual, you're looking at charging roughly once a week, or less if you're not using power-hungry features constantly. When you do need to top up, the watch reaches a full charge in around 1.4 hours using the included charging cradle — fast enough that even a short lunch break on the charger buys you several more days of use.

Smart Features and Everyday Connectivity
Beyond fitness, the GT 4 handles a reasonable slate of smartwatch duties. It displays weather, controls music playback, and connects via Bluetooth 5.2 to both iOS and Android phones, running on Huawei's own HarmonyOS rather than Google's Wear OS or Apple's watchOS. According to Huawei's own product support, the watch can also handle calls directly from the wrist through its built-in microphone and speaker when paired via Bluetooth — useful for quick conversations without fumbling for your phone.
App support runs through the HUAWEI AppGallery rather than the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, which is the single biggest asterisk for iPhone and Android users used to a wide third-party app ecosystem. Reviewers have consistently pointed out that the GT 4 functions more as a sophisticated Bluetooth-connected fitness tracker than a full smartwatch platform — there's no built-in LTE for standalone connectivity and no Wi-Fi, and the app selection is noticeably thinner than what you'd find on an Apple Watch or Galaxy Watch. If your priority is running third-party apps, mobile payments through a wide range of services, or true phone independence, this isn't the category the GT 4 competes in. If your priority is health tracking, workout accuracy, and not thinking about charging, it delivers convincingly.
Fall detection is also built in, adding a layer of safety monitoring that's becoming increasingly standard but still worth having, particularly for older users or anyone doing solo outdoor activities.
- Weather display
- On-watch music playback control
- Bluetooth 5.2, iOS and Android compatible
- Bluetooth calling via built-in mic and speaker
- HUAWEI AppGallery app support
- Fall detection
Who This Watch Is Actually For
The HUAWEI Watch GT 4 46mm makes the most sense for a fairly specific type of buyer, and it's worth being honest about who that is.
This watch fits you well if:
- You're tired of charging a smartwatch every single night and want something that lasts closer to a week or more
- You run, cycle, hike, or swim regularly and want accurate GPS tracking without paying flagship prices
- You care about how a watch looks and want something that can transition from a workout to a dinner reservation
- You want deep health metrics — heart rate, SpO2, sleep, stress, ECG — without needing a dedicated medical device
- You have a larger wrist and prefer a substantial, visible watch face
This watch is not the right fit if:
- You rely heavily on third-party apps, like Spotify running natively or extensive app store access
- You want mobile payments as a core feature or need standalone LTE connectivity away from your phone
- You have a smaller wrist and find 46mm cases overwhelming — Huawei's own 41mm variant exists specifically for this
- You need clinical-grade blood pressure monitoring
- You're deeply embedded in the Apple ecosystem and want features like Apple Pay or full Messages integration
How It Stacks Up Against the Competition
The pattern here is consistent: Huawei trades ecosystem depth and app variety for battery longevity and design distinction. Against Apple's and Samsung's flagship ecosystems, the GT 4 simply can't compete on software breadth — but neither of those watches can touch its battery life without switching to a dedicated power-saving mode that strips away most smartwatch functionality. Against closer battery-life rivals like the Amazfit Balance, the GT 4 differentiates itself through its more premium case construction and the added ECG and arrhythmia screening tools, at the cost of a typically higher price point.
| Factor | HUAWEI Watch GT 4 46mm | Apple Watch SE | Samsung Galaxy Watch (Classic) | Amazfit Balance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Typical battery life | Up to a week with regular use; multi-day even under heavy use | 1–2 days | 1–2 days | Around a week |
| App ecosystem | Limited (HUAWEI AppGallery) | Extensive (App Store) | Extensive (Google Play/Galaxy Store) | Limited |
| GPS system | Dual-band, five-system GNSS | Single-band GPS | Single-band GPS | Dual-band GPS |
| Health sensors | Heart rate, SpO2, sleep, stress, ECG, arrhythmia screening | Heart rate, ECG (select models) | Heart rate, SpO2, sleep, ECG, BIA body composition | Heart rate, SpO2, sleep, stress |
| Design style | Distinctive octagonal case, dress-watch styling | Sport-focused, minimal | Round, classic dial options | Sporty, round |
| Best suited for | Multi-day endurance and style-conscious fitness users | iPhone owners wanting full ecosystem integration | Android/Samsung phone owners wanting app depth | Long battery life at a lower price |
Honest Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
The GT 4's greatest achievement is making a smartwatch feel less like a chore. Battery anxiety — that nagging awareness of a dying watch — simply isn't part of the experience here, and that alone changes how you use the device day to day. You wear it to bed for sleep tracking without worrying it'll die by morning. You take it on a weekend trip without packing the charger. That kind of reliability is rare in this category and it's the feature most owners cite as the reason they'd buy again.
The health tracking suite is equally strong for the price. Having ECG and arrhythmia screening alongside the standard heart rate, SpO2, sleep, and stress metrics puts the GT 4 in territory usually reserved for considerably pricier devices, and the dual-band GPS genuinely improves tracking accuracy for anyone who exercises outdoors regularly. The build quality and design also punch above their price bracket — this doesn't look or feel like a budget device, and the swappable strap system adds real versatility.
Weaknesses
Where it falls short is software openness. HarmonyOS and the AppGallery simply don't offer the depth of Wear OS or watchOS, and anyone who wants their smartwatch to double as a mini-computer on their wrist — running third-party apps, handling contactless payments broadly, or offering deep smart home integration — will find the GT 4 limiting. The lack of Wi-Fi and standalone LTE means you're always tethered to your phone via Bluetooth for anything beyond basic on-watch functions.
And while the 46mm case looks great on a medium-to-large wrist, it's genuinely too big for smaller wrists, a limitation Huawei itself acknowledges by offering the 41mm alternative.
Final Verdict
The HUAWEI Watch GT 4 46mm in green woven strap earns its place as one of the more compelling fitness-focused smartwatches available today, provided you understand what it is and isn't. It is not a miniature smartphone for your wrist, and if that's what you're after, an Apple Watch or a Wear OS device will serve you better despite the daily charging routine that comes with them. What it is, is one of the most convincing arguments for prioritising substance over software: near week-long battery life, genuinely accurate GPS tracking, hospital-adjacent health monitoring tools like ECG and arrhythmia screening, and a design that looks considerably more expensive than it is.
For runners, cyclists, hikers, and anyone who simply wants reliable, detailed health data without babysitting a charger every night, this watch is an easy recommendation. For power users who live inside an app ecosystem and expect their watch to run everything their phone can, look elsewhere. Know which buyer you are, and the GT 4 46mm becomes one of the smarter, lower-maintenance smartwatch purchases you can make.
What People Say
25 commentsSuperb quality smart watch
The watch looks and feels high quality from the minute you open the box. The casing, strap and screen all give the impression they will stand up well long term. After constantly wearing the watch night and day it not only feels comfortable on but looks like it’s fresh out the box.
As an everyday watch, the more traditional watch appearance and shape are really pleasing on the eye, and the dark green strap is a nice touch. Appearance wise I don’t think any other smart watch gets close .
Set up could not have been more straightforward, and as the watch came with a partial charge, from opening the box to wearing the watch fully synced with my smart phone was about 30 minutes. Even the charger feels well made. It took me longer to select a watch face from the endless options available than it did to set up and sync.
The screen looks so large and clear, without looking too big on the wrist. I have not downloaded any additional apps for the watch but find those already on the watch to be more than enough. The heart rate monitor, blood oxygen level monitor, body temp, blood pressure are all presented in a user friendly way and get be easily accessed or even shown on the watch face itself if you want. The sleep monitor and stress monitors are also excellent features and even though I wouldn’t normally wear a watch whilst sleeping this is comfortable on the wrist and well worth it for the sleep data.
The screen size and clarity mean notifications are very easy to read, with text messages, whatsapp messages popping up without any delay from the linked smartphone. The occasions when I used it to make and receive calls the sound quality was really impressive, with both the speaker and microphone picking up sound even outdoors.
The fitness and exercise trackers are all incredibly accurate when I compared to other GPS and exercise products I have, which for a wearable was very impressive. Because of the build quality and sense of sturdiness I was never concerned whilst wearing the watch regardless of activity. As it’s also waterproof there is no real need to take the watch off until you need to charge. Which, when I had it on full power with watch face on permanently, was a full week between charges. With the power save options, it would easily last 10 days of normal use, which is a big bonus for going on holiday. And even when I did need to charge it, an hour later its fully charged and ready to go again.
I would like to see Huawei bring out an app to enable wearing the watch as a golf GPS device, but other than that I cannot find a single fault with the watch.
Battery for days !
What a great watch!
I didn’t know what to expect when first receiving the watch, but I can say that I was pleasantly surprised.
The packaging feels premium and really gives you a great first impression, the box includes the watch, charging cable and documentation.
The setup is a breeze - you are required to download the HUAWEI health app, from here it’s just a case of following the on screen prompts, I wasn’t sure if the watch would lack features as I wasn’t connecting it to an android phone but this isn’t the case and I can confirm that you have access to the full range of features even when using an iOS device.
The design of the watch is beautiful, it feels very premium and well made.
The straps are interchangeable with the help of a small switch on the top pin allowing you to remove and install new straps in seconds.
The software running on the device is called Harmony OS, this provides all of the features you would expect from a smart watch / fitness tracker as well as some that were new to me (blood o2 / stress level monitoring) the watch has the ability to forward all of your phones notifications and calls however you can’t as of yet reply to messages using the device.
A feature I find very useful is the action button below the crown, this button is addressable meaning you can assign a whole plethora of actions to it, I for example use the action button to activate the “flashlight”, great for finding your way around in a dark room.
By far the most outstanding feature of the Huawei GT4 is the battery life! With all bells and whistles turned on and wearing the watch 24/7 I can get 7 days battery life, if your turn off always on display and some other fitness tracking features you can easily get 14 days + between charges, this compared to my previous watches is unheard of!
One thing of note: the watch glass is flush with the bezel which really gives it that premium feel however I am terrified of damaging/scratching the glass as it’s doesn’t have that raised edge, I have ordered some glass screen protectors to install and I will update my review once I have these out and I’ll share the results.
A masculine watch, with a timeless look.
This looks like a lovely classic watch, however, i find it quiet chunky to wear and it would probably suit a male more.
The watch took a little while to set up, downloading the Huawei app, syncing with my phone and then allowing all the permissions. I must admit I feel like this watch needs access to everything on my phone to work properly. Which is a little off putting.
The strap seems comfortable, however, the face of the watch is bulky and sticks out on my wrist. Ive had quite a few comments about it cause it's so noticeable, although it doesn't look like your average smart watch.
Once it was all set up the app seems fairly easy to navigate and you can link Strava if required. However, i've not found any options for music, which i enjoy when exercising.
Overall its a nice looking watch, but its a little too masculine for me. The app seems to work well, however, tracking my sleep is going to be difficult as its too chunky to wear in bed.
So much more than a watch.
So happy that I chose this watch.
I have used a smart watch for many years and have had a few different models of fitbit but when the latest one went wrong I decided to have a change.
After looking at the available watched I decided to get the Huawei BY 4 and I'm so glad I did.
I wanted to track my Steps, Heart rate and exercise levels, but this watch does so much more. A month on and I am still discovering more functions many of which I never thought I needed but I now use regularly.
And it even tells the time with a clear display that I can easily read without my glasses and all at a reasonable price.
Great watch good battery life
I have had this a few weeks now, and have found that it is good at keeping track of all my stats. Easy to use and even for a heavy user battery lasts 6-7 days which is much better than my previous fitness watch. Strap is comfortable and looks great in the green. Couple of knocks but so far no marks or damage so seems robust. If I ever did have to replace it I would go for the black with the added protection the raised bezel on that version gives.
Great smart watch with all needs fulfilled
This is my first smart watch and I am really impressed with my choice. This watch looks elegant either with smartwear and sportswear too. Very nice design, light, comfortable, barely feel on my wrist. Great screen, sharp colors, easy to use for first time user, compactible with any phone brand. I see lot of benefits to follow my health, great workout programs, battery lasts really long, longer than my phone for sure.
Very ‘smart’ smart watch!
I like the smart watches but also love the old style analogue watches, they look so much nicer than a black block on your wrist - it took a while but I decided to go for the HUAWEI - it looks so nice and does everything I need it to do…steps, alarm, notifications, heart monitor etc. Lovely watch!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Best Smartwatch – Beats Apple & Samsung
The Huawei GT4 is by far the best smartwatch I’ve used. The battery lasts for days, the design is elegant, and the features are top-notch. It’s way ahead of Apple and Samsung when it comes to battery life, accuracy, and value for money. Highly recommended!
Love it!!
I love this watch, it looks great, features are good, decent sized screen, easy to set up, great battery life, works well with android and apple. Only thing i think its a littke bulky abd would more suit a man's wrist.
great battery life time
I bought this watch ago exactly 2 weeks ago and charged it last night. Battery last for 2 weeks and charging took about an hour. great features, easy to use. Work with S24 ultra with no problems. highly recommended.
Great battery life
Good looking watch with great battery life, calls are clear, it doesn't have contactless pay which is not a problem, selection of free watch faces has been restricted on the app, but there are still enough.
HUAWEI GT4
I have been looking for a round watch compatible with I phone.
Found this one works a treat, downside is that some of the features dont not work with the I Phone but overall very happy with my purchase.
Nice watch
First smart watch. Takes a bit of a while to set up
Instructions for the watch set up are not very clear. Even the downloaded instructions don't go through set up in a simple manner
Amazing watch
Bought this a few weeks ago and it's extremely accurate with a good battery life, weight and looks great
The health app is also really informative without having to pay to subscribe
Great watch
Bought this to replace Huawei band 4 pro, much easier to see being bigger battery lasted over 2 weeks and was still at 30%. Still getting used to features but looks and feels good.
Interesting and fascinating
I bought this item for Christmas for my husband who is into technology and today he is still like a little kid with the new toy. Very useful and with many vital functions.
Great Features
I brought it over a week ago I am happy I did as it had a big screen and thick watch. Battery lasts for ages and great you can swop the straps on it.
Great smartwatch
Bought this as my other smartwatch wouldn't let me store music and play thru headphones loads of health apps etc plenty of space for 300 plus songs
Great smartwatch
Great smartwatch, looking very good and it is a great quality. Has all the features needed and the battery life is unbelievable. Great product!!!
Love it
Got this at a reduced cost as I think they’re updating it?
It’s brilliant. Easy to record my swims and has transformed how I see exercise.
